چکیده

Abstract Emission of prompt gamma rays following (n,n’), (n,p) and (n,α) reactions induced by irradiation a calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) sample with beam fission neutrons was investigated modified version the FaNGaS (Fast Neutron-induced Gamma-ray Spectrometry) instrument operated at Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching. The neutron spectrum has an average energy 2.30 MeV position fast flux (1.13 ± 0.04) × 10 8 cm −2 s −1 . measurement performed angle 90° between detector. In total, we claim identification 38 lines, from which have assigned 12 to (n,n’) reaction (7 for 40 Ca, 1 42 Ca 4 44 Ca), C(n,n’) C reaction, 2 oxygen (1 16 O 18 O). other observed lines are attributed Ca(n,p) K (20 lines) Ca(n,α) 37 Ar (3 lines). Relative intensities averaged partial cross sections presented compared available literature data. Our results were found be good agreement data but also improved complemented it, as pointed out possible errors identified new lines. Additionally, counting time h detection limits calcium, carbon determined 5, 13 64 mg, respectively.

Neutron Capture Gamma Rays ( Thermal Neutron

Detection of landmines using nuclear techniques has been studied extensively since the late 1940s. Nuclear techniques look at either a return radiation, which is characteristic of explosive components that are infrequently found in soil (e.g., nitrogen or carbon), or an intensity change of a noncharacteristic scattered radiation, which is a function of a parameter that differs between soil and ...

Trabecular bone changes induced by fast neutrons versus gamma rays in mice

Background: The trabecular bone changes in the tibia of C3H/HeN mice were measured 12 weeks after whole body irradiation with various doses of fast neutrons (0-2.4 Gy) or 137Cs-generated gamma-rays (0-6 Gy). Materials and Methods: Serum calcium, phosphorus, estradiol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. Tibiae were anal...

Measurements of Photonuclear Reactions Induced with Linearly Polarized Gamma Rays

This thesis reports the first measurements of cross sections and asymmetries for gamma ray induced emission of neutrons from Se. These measurements are part of a broader project to obtain transition widths relevant to determining the weak-magnetism corrections to the standard Fermi function for the energy spectrum of electrons emitted in beta decay of radioactive nuclei. The measurements were p...

High energy gamma rays from old accreting neutron stars

We consider a magnetized neutron star with accretion from a companion star or a gas cloud around it, as a possible source of gamma rays with energy between 100 MeV and 10 − 10 eV . The flow of the accreting plasma is terminated by a shock at the Alfvén surface. Such a shock is the site for the acceleration of particles up to energies of ∼ 10 − 10 eV ; gamma photons are produced in the inelastic...

Modification of 10 cGy neutron or gamma-rays induced chromosomal damages by hyperthermia: an in vitro study

Background: To evaluate the effects of hyperthermia (HT) on the frequency of chromosomal aberrations induced by a low dose of neutron or γ-rays in human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Materials and Methods: Blood samples were exposed to HT (41.5°C for 30 and 60min, 43°C for 15 and 30min), 10 cGy neutron or γ-rays, HT + neutron/γ, and neutron/γ + HT. After standard cell culture, harvestin...
